Shar was born in 1950 in Indiana and began her love of art as a young girl. She was entered at the age of 9 years by her art teacher in the County schools art competition for grade, junior high, and high school. She discovered at this age while painting ballerinas in water color that she understood shadow and light. The result was receiving the Grand Champion Art Award for all grade levels and this helped nurture her love towards art. She also had a great love of animals by being raised in a country environment with nature.
Her studies during college years led her to study at John Herron Art Institute through Indiana Purdue University Institute. Other careers were necessary but she still kept her love of art. Being a mother having various careers, including being in the animal field such as a Veterinarian technician, would eventually lead her towards her art direction of today. Later she was in the travel industry as a flight attendant and owning a corporate travel agency. As eventual owner of a fitness studio and store she continued school and became a Behavioral Therapist and Neurofeedback practitioner. Her practice was successful but health had other plans for her. She developed Multiple Sclerosis and was forced to give up her practice. Married to an Art Director in the film industry, it was suggested that she seek a direction without the stress. It was a time to focus on her health which included returning to her love of art.
Shar had a Therapy Border Collie. Together they became a Crisis Response Team through boot camp training at Los Angeles Police Academy. As a team together they provided emotional support to crisis and disaster situations. Shar was able to combine working with her dog and taking more refresher art studies at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, CA. Her work of clay and stone sculpting, acrylic painting with Native American Contemporary style was published in the Los Angeles Art Directional Book and then entered in several juried shows. She was preparing to introduce her work into an Art Gallery in California but her husband had decided to retire and they moved to Central Mexico. Her art continued to change while in Mexico but was limited and influenced with the constant rescuing of animals during their 5 years of living there. They returned to the United States and moved to Santa Fe, NM. It was then Shar became involved with assisting Arizona Border Collie Rescue by volunteering to temporary foster and transport with rescued Border Collies. She assisted with marketing some of the Border Collies within the foster program by doing write-ups of sharing their story. She also certified two of her adopted Border Collies as Therapy and Read Program dogs and developed the local Read program for children at the Eldorado library in Santa Fe plus to establish and continue at a local school in Tucson, AZ. The reading by the children to the dogs and doing marketing write-ups of sharing the foster dogs stories, planted the seed to develop a way to bring a story to her art.
